The Collegiate Fighting Games Conference (CFGC) and the National Esports Collegiate Conference (NECC) announced a joint-venture today in which the two entities will come together to host a series of fighting game events during the upcoming spring semester.
The event series which includes the titles Street Fighter and Tekken and will feature three monthly events in each title. It will culminate with a championship tournament in each game. The full schedule of events can be found below.
“CFGC’s purpose is to grow the FGC (Fighting Games Community) at the collegiate level and provide access and opportunity to students who play these games and partnering with NECC just makes sense,” said Jason Clark, the CEO of CFGC.
“The FGC is unique in culture and competition, and we’re excited to develop and build this with the NECC to include their schools and competitors!”
The series of monthly events marks the first time that the CFGC and the NECC have come together to serve and promote the fighting game scene within the collegiate esports community.
Albert Rassavong, COO of CFGC continued, "My biggest dream was always to grow the collegiate fighting game scene and I'm glad to continue growing it with NECC!"
“We’re excited to be collaborating with the CFGC team and community on this effort,” said NECC Commissioner / CEO Jacob VanRyn. “Today’s announcement is the result of a lot of discussion and effort over the last few months. We’re hopeful that this is the beginning of a long-term relationship with CFGC that helps support the collegiate fighting games community.”
