NECC Announces Samsung SSD Fall Open League of Legends Series of Tournaments

The National Esports Collegiate Conference (NECC) announced it will be hosting a series of League of Legends Tournaments throughout the month of October thanks to its partnership with Samsung SSD.

The Samsung SSD Fall Open League of Legends Tournament is a series of two qualifying events leading to the championship event, and it will be held over the course of three weekends in October.

The Fall Open will feature a prize pool of over $2,500 in cash and prizes for the winning teams and each of the qualifiers is free to compete in for all teams.

The first Samsung SSD Fall Open qualifier is scheduled to take place October 28-29, while Qualifier No. 2 will take place the following weekend, November 4-5.

Teams that qualify from either of the first two qualifying events to compete for the championship weekend will play the following weekend - November 11-12 - to crown a champion.  The top four teams from each qualifier will earn a spot to compete in the Championship Weekend of the event.

The championship-winning team will receive $1,500, and all championship-winning players will receive a Samsung SSD prize pack that includes a Samsung Solid State Drive 990 PRO. The team that finishes second will win $750.

"We're excited to announce another tournament series thanks to our partnership with Samsung SSD," said NECC CEO Jacob VanRyn. "Anytime we can provide our community with opportunities to compete for over $2,500 in cash and prizes, we're excited to do that."

There is no charge for any team to compete and each event is open to all teams representing a college or university in North America. Schools may register more than one team per program but players may only compete for one team in the event.

The Fall Open will feature a single elimination tournament with all matches being best of three. The NECC will be releasing the official tournament rulebook shortly.

Registration for the series is now open and will run through October 11th.
